Here GCDC introduces a new concept: the featured comic!
Once every week (or so) we’ll showcase a comic who has been working hard for years to build a comedy career and has made waves doing so. Whenever possible, we’ll also provide an immediate place to actually go out and see the featured comic on stage.
Our first featured comic, Brandon Fisher, is a fixture at DC-area comedy shows and is a very clever writer and performer. He will headline tonight’s GCDC show at Jake’s Boiler Room.
Here’s our quick Q&A with Brandon Fisher!
GCDC: If you could have dinner with any person, living, dead or fictitious, who might it be and what might you order?
BF: I always found this question weird. I would never eat dinner w/ a dead person. I’ve seen Weekend at Bernie’s & it seems like a lot of maintenance. For real live people who can respond; Paul F Tompkins, David Bowie, Neil deGrasse Tyson & me could probably be more entertaining than a bunch of stiffs.
GCDC: When was the first mainstream concert you ever attended and who was the headlining act?
BF: My school had an annually event & would book local talent, which if you’re from DC, you know Go-Go is very inexpensive to book. So I stood w/ a couple hundred other white people trying to figure out how to dance to Go-Go. And those moves stick w/ me to this day.
GCDC: What’s one piece of advice you would give to someone just starting out in comedy?
BF: Don’t take a show you’re not ready for. There are bookers who will always gauge your quality on the first time they saw you. And if you don’t have five minutes, don’t take all five. Do the time you have and leave knowing you filled all the time w/ quality.
GCDC: On a scale of 1-10, how much are you looking forward to the new Star Wars movie?
BF: I am 7th episode excited.
GCDC: If you could add a question to this questionnaire, what would it be and what would be your answer?
BF: Have you seen Spaced? It’s pretty great.
